Summary

Background:
Section 381.80 of Amended Substitute House Bill 33 of the 135th General Assembly appropriated funds to award grants under the Teach CS Grant Program established in Ohio Revised Code Sec􀆟on 3333.129. ODHE released a Request for Applications (“RFA”) on November 1, 2023, seeking colleges and universities, and educational service centers who desired to partner with ODHE to increase the number of teachers qualified to teach computer science in Ohio. 11 colleges and universities and five ESCs were selected to receive a Teach CS grant. ODHE now seeks to allocate the remaining 1.9 million dollars to existing partners who can demonstrate need and new partners that will operate in underserved geographic locations. This RFA is for all existing partners.

Eligibility:
This RFA is open to existing Teach CS grant awardees:

College/University Partners:

Bowling Green State University, Cleveland State University, Heidelberg University, Kent State University, Lake Erie College, Malone University, Mount St. Joseph University, The Ohio State University, The University of Akron, University of Cincinnati, Youngstown State University

ESC Partners:
Educational Service Center of Central Ohio, Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West, Educational Service Center of the Western Reserve, Gallia Vinton Educational Service Center, Muskingum Valley ESC, Putnam County Educational Service Center.

However, existing awardees should only apply if they have an immediate or pending need for additional funds.

Anticipated Awards:
The Ohio Department of Higher Education has approximately 1.9M remaining in the Teach CS appropriation for FY 2025. ODHE seeks to provide additional Teach CS grant funding to existing partners who can demonstrate an immediate need for additional funds. ODHE will also be releasing an RFA for new partners simultaneous to this RFA. Both RFAs are allocating the same 1.9M in funding.

Project Term:
The project term will be until June 30, 2025. Current awardees chosen for additional funding will sign an amendment to the current award agreement.

Applicants are responsible for timely submissions of applications. Applications become property of ODHE and are subject to public record laws of the state. Applications containing all the required elements will receive careful consideration but cannot be guaranteed funding. Accepted applications will be evaluated and the Chancellor will make final decisions based upon the quality of the application in addressing the application criteria and its required elements. There is no set number of awards.
